Public Sector Network is looking for a full-stack developer with 8+ years' experience in Django/Python or similar stacks.

This is your chance to lay the foundations of a platform aimed at helping government workers connect with each other, and with the solution providers that can help them best. We have high standards for quality, so you need to be able to solve challenging problems, and to solve them with clean, testable, and maintainable code. This is not a position for a code-pusher, you will be expected to think and communicate at a design and architectural level, as well as understanding the business needs to iterate on requirements effectively.

Understanding everything from how to build good UX, down to designing solid data models, is critical. You need to be curious: always learning and honing your craft.

Ideally, you’d be based in Australia or nearby, or near the GMT+2 time zone where our CTO is based. If this sounds like a good fit for you, please drop us a cover letter and CV at [email protected]!

Why work with us?

  • Greenfield projects where you get to choose tech, design processes, and build the architecture to materialise our vision
  • Social impact! Help government workers around the world do better by sharing insights and connecting them with their peers, worldwide
  • Autonomy in how and when you work
  • Remote first. We use the right tools and processes to work asynchronously. Less meetings, better outcomes
  • Deep investment and support for your quality of life
  • Support in doing things the right way with CI/CD, automated testing, true agile, refactoring, etc.
  • No painful interviews. No whiteboard coding, trick questions, or other nonsense

Requirements:

  • Fluent in English
  • Ability to work remotely near GMT+2, or in Australia without visa restrictions
  • Solid communication and interpersonal skills
  • Python and Django experience, or transferrable skills like Java/Spring or Ruby on Rails
  • At least 8 years shipping production-level web apps in small teams and/or startup environments
  • Experience with SQL, PostgreSQL/MySQL, ORM, and data modelling
  • HTML, CSS, and JavaScript skills
  • High standards for themselves and others
  • Ability to build UIs with good UX
  • Deep understanding of internet plumbing like HTTP, APIs, DNS, caching, etc.
  • Ability to write code for the future. Code that is simple, easy to understand, testable, and maintainable

Extra points for:

  • AWS or other cloud and DevOps experience
  • HTMX experience
  • CMS experience with something like Wagtail or Wordpress
